EFCC announces return to Twitter, says ‘there are some birds you can not keep down

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced its return to X formerly Twitter with a bold message, declaring that “there are some birds you cannot keep down.”

The terse statement on Thursday signals the agency’s renewed presence on the social media platform after a period of inactivity.

Recall that the anti-graft agency’s X handle with over 2 million users was confirmed to be inactive on August 16, 2024, as it was no longer visible.

When it was searched on X, the result was ‘The term you entered did not bring up any results. Please try again later’.

However, the website of the EFCC, as well as its Facebook and Instagram accounts were active during this periods.

Many claimed it was a hacking attempt by some internet fraudsters otherwise known as Yahoo boys.

But debunking the allegation, the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said an update on the agency’s account is responsible for the glitch.

Dele Oyewale in a statement said; ”our X account is down temporarily due to ongoing upgrade and we will soon bounce back.

“You know when there is an upgrade in a system, it may be temporarily down and inaccessible. We doing the upgrade to serve the public better.

“You can see that other social media pages of the commission are still functional”.

He said that the anti-graft agency was also updating its records on the account.

”Our account was not hacked. It will soon start running,” he said.
