A 43-year-old man, Abubakar Amodu, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing goods worth N94million.
The defendant, a driver who resides at 4 Monach-nud St., Lumac Junction, Satellite, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, is charged with conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on Dec. 17, 2022, at Mile 2, Lagos.
Akeem said that the defendant and one other person at large were to deliver a 40-feet container of 920 bags of Soya beans, valued, N28 million, to one of their customers outside Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the defendant and his other accomplice diverted the said good to another destination.
Akeem said that the 40-feet container, valued at N8 million and the goods inside, valued at N28 million, belonged to Blessmike Integrated Service Limited.
The prosecutor said that the defendant were to also deliver 400 bags of Coco Ceed, valued, N50 million to a customer warehouse at Mowe, Ogun State, property of Gbemtan Investment Limited.
The prosecutor said that the defendant and his other accomplice also diverted the goods to another destination and all efforts to reach them failed.
Akeem said that the second 40-feet container was valued at N8 million and the goods inside was valued at N50 million.
The prosecutor said that the total value of the stolen items is N94 million.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, admitted the defendant to bail of N3million with four sureties in like sum.
Osunsanmi adjourned the case until April 5 for mention.
