A 42-year-old tipper driver, Sulimon Ramon, on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, over alleged theft of iron rods and planks worth N860,000.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on felony and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Police prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant, on Dec.12, 2022, around 12.30 a.m. along Okitipupa-Ode Aye Road, in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Magisterial District, committed the offences.
Orogbeni said that the defendant, who was hired to transport some iron rods and planks to a new site, stole some of the items, property of one Eniola Otuyemi.
The Prosecutor said that the defendant contravened Sections 383 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Chris Ojuola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.
Ojuola adjourned the case until March 14, for further hearing.
