Doing It Differently: Why Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem Deserves a Second Term

By ANAYIMI OBANSON

In democratic governance, the true measure of a representative lies not in promises made during campaigns but in the impact of service delivered while in office.

For the people of Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, the representation of Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem in the House of Representatives has become a reference point for purposeful leadership, grassroots engagement, and people-centered development.

Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem was inaugurated into the 10th National Assembly on June 13, 2023, as the member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency. Since assuming office, he has remained committed to his campaign philosophy of “Doing It Differently,” a slogan that has increasingly become a reflection of his style of representation.

Although, like many public office holders, he has faced criticism from some quarters, a closer assessment of his performance reveals a lawmaker focused on delivering tangible dividends of democracy to his constituents.

His approach has been marked by constructive engagement, infrastructural development, youth empowerment, and support for vulnerable groups across the constituency.

One of the most notable achievements of Hon. Abdulraheem’s tenure is his commitment to youth employment. By facilitating employment opportunities in both federal and state establishments, he has helped many young people secure stable livelihoods.

For a constituency with a growing youth population, these opportunities have not only reduced unemployment but have also restored hope among many families.

Beyond employment, his representation has attracted critical development projects to Ajaokuta Federal Constituency. From road infrastructure projects to mechanized agricultural initiatives, the constituency has witnessed interventions aimed at improving economic activities and enhancing the quality of life of residents.

Recognizing the importance of education as a tool for societal transformation, Hon. Abdulraheem has consistently invested in human capital development. Through the payment of school fees, scholarship awards, and educational support programmes, numerous students have benefited from his intervention, enabling them to pursue their academic aspirations without financial constraints.

Women and youth empowerment have also remained central to his legislative agenda. Various vocational training programmes organized under his watch have equipped beneficiaries with practical skills necessary for self-reliance and economic independence.

These initiatives have contributed significantly to reducing poverty and encouraging entrepreneurship within the constituency.

Perhaps one of the defining features of his representation is his commitment to inclusiveness. Unlike the traditional model where elected officials become distant from the electorate after elections, Hon. Abdulraheem has maintained regular contact with his constituents through a series of town hall meetings.

These engagements have provided a platform for citizens to freely express their concerns, make suggestions, and actively participate in shaping development priorities for their communities.

His determination to serve effectively became evident immediately after assuming office when he established a Needs Assessment Committee.

The committee was tasked with identifying the most pressing challenges facing the constituency and developing a strategic roadmap for intervention.

This deliberate and systematic approach to governance has ensured that projects and programmes are targeted at areas of greatest need.

As preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections, the emergence of Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to once again represent Ajaokuta Federal Constituency has been welcomed by many political observers as a logical continuation of ongoing developmental efforts.

Political analysts argue that continuity in leadership often accelerates development, particularly when an elected official has already established a clear understanding of the needs of the people and demonstrated a commitment to addressing them.

For many residents, a second term for Hon. Abdulraheem would provide an opportunity to consolidate existing gains and attract even more developmental projects to the constituency.

As voters assess the performance of their representatives ahead of future elections, the record of Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem offers substantial evidence of a lawmaker determined to redefine representation through service, accessibility, and measurable impact.

In many respects, his stewardship of Ajaokuta Federal Constituency has embodied the promise of “Doing It Differently”—a promise that many constituents believe deserves another mandate.

For supporters and admirers alike, the case for a second term is not merely about politics; it is about sustaining a development-driven representation that has placed the welfare and aspirations of the people at the center of governance.
