Disquiet in Akwa Ibom as court delivers judgement on Friday

There is currently tension in Akwa Ibom State as the Federal High Court in Uyo is set to deliver judgement over the certificate forgery case against Pastor Umo Eno, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

It could be recalled that one of the governorship aspirants of PDP, Mr Akan Okon dragged the party’s flagbearer, Eno, to court over alleged WAEC result forgery and falsified age declaration.

In suit number, FHC/UY/CS/110/2022, Okon asked Justice Agatha Okeke of the Federal High Court to disqualify Pastor Eno and endorse him as the party’s candidate, being the next highest vote scorer at the May 25 guber primary.

It was gathered that the matter was originally slated for determination on November 28, but had to be shifted to November 11, in order to settle all pre-election cases before the general elections.

Governor Udom Emmanuel, who announced Eno as his preferred successor in January 2022, it was further gathered, is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that his candidate comes out successful on Friday.

One of the sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said:”The governor cannot sit and watch the court sack Umo Eno, of late he has been travelling out of the state more frequently, reaching out to influential people across the country in a bid to save the situation.”

Meanwhile, opposition political parties in the state have taken due advantage of the alleged forgery case, lampooning Eno, the PDP and Governor Emmanuel.

The Young Progressives Party, YPP in one of its campaign songs had challenged Umo Eno to show his certificates if he wants to be the governor.
