Debate: Obi unpresidential – Dino Melaye

The spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, Dino Melaye, has demanded an apology from the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Melaye said Obi’s outburst against him was unwarranted and unpresidential.

A mild drama played out between Obi and Melaye during the presidential debate organised by Arise TV.

Melaye had tagged an attendee who wanted to ask a question as ‘Obi people.’

Angered by Melaye’s comment, Obi retorted harshly at the PDP chieftain.

He said: “Stop that Dino. Why are you always calling me? I won’t take that. This man is from ANPP. Why are you calling him Obi people?”

However, Melaye insisted that he did not provoke Obi during the debate.

In a series of tweets, the former Kogi West Senator noted that Obi might be intolerant as a president.

He wrote: “He(Peter Obi) was not provoked. I was sitting far opposite the top seat, where they were sitting, I didn’t mention his name and I was really surprised to see that type of outburst from a presidential candidate.

“Is that the type of president he is going to make, just taking on people and showing unpresidential characteristics?

“That outburst is unwarranted, very unpresidential, unacceptable of a leader. A leader must be mature.”
