Death toll rises to 19 in Bangladesh accident

The death toll has risen to 19 after a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Imad Transport fell into a ditch in Qutubpur area of Shibchar in Madaripur district of Bangladesh on the Padma Bridge Expressway. At least 30 people were injured in this incident. The accident happened on Sunday morning.

10 of the dead have been identified. They are Gopalganj District Deputy Director of Family Planning Anadi Ranjan Majumder (55), Masud Hossain’s daughter Sweety Akhter (25), Nowsher Ali Sheikh’s son Sameer Sheikh (20), Kanchan Sheikh’s son Kadir Sheikh (40), Bangram’s Shamsul Sheikh’s son Mostak. Ahmed (40), Ismail Hossain (55), son of Taib Ali. Hemayet Hossain (30), Farhad Shikder (40), son of Bakul Shikder of Narail, Afsana Mimi (24), a student of Mymensingh Agricultural University, and Beauty Akter (21), a student of Dhaka University, are trying to identify the others.

Locals said that on Sunday morning, a bus of Imad Transport left from Khulna lost control and fell down in Qutubpur area of Shibchar before Padma bridge. At this time, the bus was twisted. It is reported that the bodies of 14 people were recovered from the bus at 8 am.

Bangladesh Shibchar Highway Police OC Mr. Abu Naeem Mofazzel Haque said that the death toll is currently 19. There are many casualties. Rescue work is going on. Details will be announced later.

Superintendent of Police. Masud Alam said that 19 people were killed in the accident. The death toll may rise further.
