Dani Alves to remain in jail after judge’s order

Former Barcelona defender, Dani Alves has been denied bail and will remain in jail as investigation over a case of alleged sexual assault continues, a Spanish court ruled on Tuesday.

Alves’s legal team had presented an appeal on January 30 for him to be released from pre-trial detention, after he was jailed on remand on Jan. 20.

However, the judge has deemed that the 39-year-old is a potential flight risk due to his financial means.

Also, Alves has Brazilian nationality and Brazil has no extradition agreements with Spain.

The former footballer is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona on December 30.

Alves has denied any wrongdoing.
