CUSTECH Teaching Hospital ‘ll provide effective health services – Prof Salawu

The Vice Chancellor, Confluence University of Science and Technology, (CUSTECH) Osara Prof. Abdulrahaman Asipita Salawu
says the establishment of a Teaching Hospital in Okene will provide effective health services for the people of Kogi State and Nigeria in general.

Prof Salawu stated this on Monday during a public hearing on a bill for a law to provide for the Confluence University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital Okene.

He disclosed that the hospital would be equipped, maintained and operated as a Teaching Hospital to provide facilities for diagnostic, curative, preventive, rehabilitative training services in medical treatment for the people of Kogi State, Nigeria and the international Community.

Explaining further, Prof. Salawu said “the law will ensure that the standard of health services and training provided under its control do not fall below those provided by other similar reputable institutions. It will serve as a referral centre for other Hospitals, training and research institution.

“The hospital will conduct research in medical and related services, taking into account the State and National requirements with respect to studies in health sciences. It will also arrange for residency training in all specialities for the fellowship examinations of the National Postgraduate Medical College and West African Postgraduate Medical College.

“The hospital will train House Officers and other interns in health professions and disciplines allied to medicine and arrange for training of other personnel of the Hospital. The hospital will enter into contracts, establish trust, act as trustee, solely or jointly with any other person employed and through agents”.

In his contributions, the immediate past Chairman, Medical Advisory Council, Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja , Dr Ododo Bernard asserted that the teaching hospital will ensure effective health services both home and abroad.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Umar in his submission said the bill before the hallow chamber was to repeal the law that established the Reference Hospital Okene to a Teaching Hospital which is part of the prerequisite needed for students studying medicine in CUSTECH Osara.

Traditional rulers present at the public hearing appealed for a speedy passage of the bill ,stressing on the immense benefits to their People.
