CUSTECH Matriculates 1,061 New students

…Tasks them on academic excellence, good character.

The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara on Wednesday, matriculated 1,061 students drawn from twenty states of the Federation including the FCT into the NUC approved thirty eight (38) programmes.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahaman Asipita Salawu, charged the students to be exceptional in their academic pursuit and to be of good character.

“It is with great pleasure and humility that I stand before you today as the Vice-Chancellor of this esteemed University, to warmly welcome each and everyone of you to our university family. On behalf of the Management, Senate, staff and students of this University, I extend a heartfelt congratulations to our incoming students as you embark on this transformative journey of higher education.

“As you stand here on the threshold of a new chapter in your lives, I want you to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this journey. You must know that matriculation marks not only the beginning of your pursuits but also symbolises a commitment to learning growth, and the pursuit of excellence.”

He said the academic environment comes with its opportunities and challenges, but however encouraged the new students to take advantage of both and make the best use of them.

He enjoined the students to remember the importance of integrity by learning and understanding the rules of academic engagement as stipulated in the statues and regulations of the university.

“In the hall of academia, you will encounter a myriad of opportunities and challenges. You will be exposed to new ideas, perspective, and experience that will shape your understanding of the world and your place within it. Embrace these opportunities with an open and willingness to engage in critical discourse. Challenge yourself to think critically, to question assumptions, and to seek knowledge not just for the sake of accumulation, but for the betterment of yourselves and the society as a whole.

“As you navigate your academic journey today, I encourage you to remember the importance of integrity by learning and understanding the rules of academic engagement as stipulated in the statues and regulations of the university.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, and particularly our matriculating students, to obtain a university degree in Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, a student must be found worthy both in character and learning. Our cardinal purpose is not only to equip you with an education, with the spirit of intellectual enquiry, curiosity and resilience, but also, you must be found to be morally upright.

“This clearly shows that character is an integral component of requirements for students to graduate. You must therefore resist the temptation to abuse your new found freedom associated with campus life. You must shun all forms of social vices such as cultism, indecent dressing, examination malpractices, sexual misbehaviour, fraudulent acts and any anti-social behaviour that could mar your future.

“I enjoin you all to remain focused and grab as much knowledge and skills as possible to enable you to excel in the highly competitive and challenging environment. Choose your friends carefully. Friends can support you in your efforts to maximize the benefits of being here. Friends can also distract you by engaging you in a fruitless activity at the expense of your studies. Get to know those who express high social, academic, and personal values that align with yours. Let these virtues be your guiding principles as you strive for academic excellence and personal growth.

“At this matriculation ceremony today, we shall be inducting 1,061 students drawn from twenty states of the Federation including FCT into the NUC approved thirty eight (38) programmes in six (6) faculties of the University namely: Faculty of Engineering, Faculty Sciences, Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Faculty of Management Sciences, Faculty of Science Education Technology and Faculty of Environmental Sciences.”

He noted that as one of the fastest growing young universities in Nigeria today, they are committed to ensuring that the students have access to the resources, support and guidance they need to excel academically, personally and professionally.

“Our staff are here to guide and mentor you, to challenge and inspire you, and to help you realize your full potential. But ultimately your success lies in your hands. Seize every opportunity that comes your way and never underestimate the power of hard work, dedication and perseverance.

“I am particularly excited about this year’s matriculation ceremony as you are the very first set of students to be admitted into this great citadel of learning under my leadership as the Vice-Chancellor of this University. Let me assure you that under my leadership, this university will be a shining example to other universities in no distant time in terms of of the quality of academic activities and moral values.

“In conclusion, I want to once again extend my warmest welcome to each and every one of you. As you embark on this journey, know that you are not alone. You are part of the vibrant and diverse community of scholars, thinkers and dreamers all united by a shared passion for learning and discovery. Together, let us embrace the challenges that lie ahead and work towards building a brighter future for ourselves and for generation to come.” He said.
