CSOs Blame NASS on Buhari’s Failure to Tackle Insecurity, Other Issues

By Yakubu Salisu, Kano

Civil Societies under the auspices of Non State Actors Consultative Forum (NOSACOF) has blamed the National Assembly for president Buhari’s inability to tackle the wave of insecurity, economic meltdown and other issues plaguing the country.

Addressing news men in Kano on Wednesday, Abdulrazaq Alkali, the convener, said that, the lawmakers failed to carry out their oversight functions on the various security arms of government despite billions of dollars budgeted for security but rather focused attention on befriending various heads of security agencies in their chase for getting contracts and other financial gains.

According to him, the plot to impeach the president is nothing but a shameful move to save their faces and win the public’s love, but warned, the move is capable of plunging Nigeria into unimaginable internal conflicts the country may never recover from.

Alkali noted that the move is orchestrated by mostly disgruntled members of the ruling APC who lost out in recent primaries and some members of the opposition parties after their selfish interests.

“Lawmakers at both senate and house of representatives have failed to look at their own failures and incompetence which contributed to the worsening economic and security situation in the country”.

“The country’s numerous challenges are as a result of accumulation of years of incompetence, selfishness, greed, injustice and corruption perpetrated by mostly political leaders shielded by ethnic and religious entities, weak and corrupt justice system”.

“Nigerians must exercise caution and allow democratic process to take place through proper electoral transition”, he added, he added..

He further charge the lawmakers to focus on finding real and lasting solutions to the insecurities and other challenges tormenting the country and drop the impeachment plot in the interest of the country.
