A Federal High Court in Osogbo has ordered the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to stop its preparation and not conduct local government elections.

OSIEC on August 15, 2022, announced plans to conduct a local government election in the state on October 15, 2022.

It maintained that the poll was in accordance with the newly signed OSIEC law.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state dragged the Commission to court and announced plans to boycott the council poll if OSIEC conducted the election.

The Osun PDP had also alleged that it was needless for the Governor Gboyega Oyetola-led government to conduct the election now.

This court order is coming after the commission commenced training for its ad-hoc staff for the October 15 local government election.
