Court remands man for alleged armed robbery, culpable homicide

An FCT High Court, Gwagwalada, Abuja, has remanded a man, Sunday Daniel in a correctional centre, for alleged culpable homicide.

The police charged Daniel with three-counts, bordering on criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Justice Aliyu Shafa, adjourned the matter till March 22, for further hearing.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, B.N. Ezeala, had told the court that the defendant, and others now at large, sometimes in April 2021, at New Nyanya, Karu, Abuja, armed with dangerous weapons conspired and robbed occupants of a house of their properties.

Ezeala also said that the defendant, and others armed with locally made pistols and other dangerous weapons, invaded, robbed and attacked persons and inflicted grievous bodily harm on them.

She further alleged that the suspects carted away properties belonging to the victims.

The prosecutor claimed the defendant, and others, also in April 2021, at New Nyanya, armed with dangerous weapons, and with the intention to kill, also caused the death of one Augustine Atulagwu during the robbery.

According to Ezeala, the offences contravene the provisions of sections 96, 296 and 220 of the Penal Code.
