In every society, the relationship between government and organised labour plays a critical role in determining industrial harmony, productivity and sustainable development. When that relationship is built on trust, dialogue and mutual respect, both workers and government become partners in progress.
In Kogi State, one individual who has consistently demonstrated the ability to nurture such a relationship is Comrade Onuh Edoka.
Popularly referred to by many workers as “Chairman Emeritus,” Edoka has built a reputation as a dependable labour leader, seasoned negotiator and advocate for workers’ welfare.
His journey from the leadership of organised labour to serving as Special Adviser on Labour Matters to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo reflects years of dedication to promoting industrial peace and advancing the interests of workers without losing sight of the government’s development agenda.
Before his appointment into government, Edoka served two successful terms as Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kogi State Council. During that period, he distinguished himself through principled leadership, constructive engagement and a commitment to resolving labour disputes through dialogue rather than prolonged confrontation.
His tenure was characterised by a balanced approach that earned him respect from both workers and government officials. As Kogi State pursues its development objectives under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the importance of maintaining industrial peace cannot be overstated. Stable labour relations remain essential for efficient public service delivery, economic growth and the successful implementation of government policies.
In this regard, Comrade Onuh Edoka continues to play a strategic role. His experience, credibility and commitment to dialogue have made him an indispensable link between government and workers, fostering understanding where differences exist and building consensus where necessary.
