COAS Honours Troops at Edo Eid Luncheon, Commends Commitment to National Security

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday hosted troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army to a special Eid-el-Kabir luncheon at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ehor in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

Speaking during the event held on May 28, 2026, the COAS described Eid-el-Kabir as a significant festival that promotes the virtues of sacrifice, faith, and spiritual reflection, values he said align with the principles and professional demands of military service.

Represented by the Commander, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, the army chief commended the troops for their loyalty, courage, resilience, and commitment in ongoing military operations across the country.

He said the dedication of troops had continued to contribute to successes recorded against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft, and other criminal activities threatening national peace and stability.

“The nation remains proud of your selfless service and dedication towards safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he stated.

The COAS also assured personnel of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving their welfare and urged them to continue upholding the core values of the service in all engagements.

He further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the Armed Forces, particularly in the areas of personnel welfare, operational effectiveness, and institutional development.

Earlier, the Officer Commanding FOB Ehor, Captain Ahmad Mohammed, said the luncheon provided an opportunity for troops to renew their dedication to duty and strengthen camaraderie among personnel.

He thanked the Brigade Commander for his leadership and encouragement, which he noted had continued to motivate troops toward excellence in their operations.

The officer also appreciated the Chairman of Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Agie Joseph Samuel, the Enogie of Ehor, Chief Joseph Ogiehor, represented by Chief Peter Idemudia, and heads of other security agencies for attending the event.

Highlights of the occasion included cultural dance performances, presentation of souvenirs, morale-boosting songs, and a luncheon for the troops.
