Civil Society Group Disagrees With Corruption Allegations On New Acting AGF

By Sarauniya G Usman, Abuja

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON) has expressed its displeasure against a recently published corruption allegations against the newly appointed Acting Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Anamekwe Nwabuoku by some unknown and mischievous media organisations.

COCSON’s reaction to the unfounded allegations report against the new AGF came through its Director of Administration, Alhaji Tijani Ali Danjuma who described the report as false and baseless.

Alhaji Tijani further described the new AGF as a well accomplished civil servant, who has a clean career slate devoid of any corruption charges or fraudulent acts.  Adding that, while Mr. Anamekwe was the Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA) incharge of funds meant for Internal Security at the Ministry of Defence, there was never a time his books were faulted as widely speculated by the unfounded media reports.

Mr. Nwabuoku was recently appointed to oversee the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) in the absence of the suspended AGF Ahmed Idris who is undergoing EFCC investigation over an alleged fraud.

Prior to Mr. Anamekwe’s announcement as the new AGF, there was no such report in the media from the EFCC describing him as a corrupt Civil Servant who at any point in time overpaid himself in previous MDAs where he ever served and that he acquired properties from corruption proceeds and those properties had been recovered by any antigraft agency in Nigeria or abroad. Hence, the claim from the unknown media house of massive corruption allegations hanging on the neck of the new AGF is a calculated attempt at smearing the good image and service record of the newly appointed AGF.

Furthermore, proven records from Ministry of Defence has shown how Mr. Nwabuoku NEVER Compromised the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) to steal staff salaries as alleged.

GIFMIS is a payment platform that IS NOT controlled by any Ministry or Agency in Nigeria except the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.  This shows how ignorant the blackmail-writer is.

Mr. Anamekwe Nwabuoku should therefore be allowed to concentrate on his job and not to be distracted by any group.

According to Danjuma, this pull him down syndrome should stop.  All calculated attempts to ruin the good name and records of the current Acting AGF is not good for the system.
