Child abduction ‘lesser evil’ than killing soldiers – Gumi

Controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has said the mass abduction of children is a lesser evil compared to the killing of military officers.

Gumi made the assertion in an interview with BBC Pidgin, as captured in a video posted on the medium’s Facebook page on Tuesday.

Although he described all activities of the bandits causing chaos across the country as evil, he maintained that abduction is a lesser evil when compared to killing.

“Kidnapping children is lesser evil than killing of soldiers. They are all evil but killing is worse than abduction. Like what happened in Kebbi, the abducted schoolgirls were released,” the Islamic scholar said.

Contrary to claims of his alleged links to the troublemakers, Gumi said he has never met with the bandits alone, stressing that the last time he met with them was in 2021.
