Chelsea have reportedly stepped up their interest in the Everton midfielder, Amadou Onana, as a possible alternative to Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo.
The Times reports that Chelsea have been pursuing Fernández of Benfica and Caicedo of Brighton throughout this month in the hope of bringing in a midfielder before the transfer window closes next week.
As a result, the Blues have been forced to consider alternatives, and Onana is high on the list, although Everton do not want to sell the Belgium international.
Chelsea are looking to bolster their manager Graham Potter’s options in the midfield even further this winter window.
Talks with Benfica over a deal for Fernandez restarted this week, but the Portuguese club are adamant that their player will not leave unless his £105.6 million release clause is met.
Also, Chelsea have been in discussion with Brighton for Caicedo this January, but a bid of around £50 million was rejected last week.
