Buhari to Erdogan: We are sad over terrorist attack in Turkey

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the “despicable and cowardly” terrorist attack in Turkey.

The Sunday incident claimed at least six lives and injured scores of people in central Istanbul.

A bomb exploded about 16:20 local time on a busy shopping street in the Taksim Square area.

President Buhari expressed “the shock and sadness” of the Nigerian people over the attack.

He assured Turkish President Recep Erdogan that Nigeria will continue to support the global war against terrorism.

Buhari said the thoughts and prayers of citizens are with the families of those killed.

“We wish full and speedy recovery to those injured”, his statement by spokesperson Garba Shehu reads.

Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said the authorities believe that a woman detonated the bomb.

The CCTV footage analyzed shows her sitting on a bench for more than 40 minutes.

The suspect, under investigation, left a bag behind which exploded minutes after she walked away.
