Borno lawmaker meets Northern lawmakers in Mecca

Muktar Betara, one of the aspirants for the Speakership of the House of Representatives, on Monday, held a meeting with some lawmakers in Saudi Arabia as part of broader consultation.

The lawmakers from Adamawa, Katsina, Kaduna, Gombe, Jigawa and Bauchi States attended the meeting.

Betara, who is from Borno State, is working to secure a majority of members-elect before the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) decides on the zoning of the offices.

The lawmaker is in an uphill battle because he is from Borno State, the same state as the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima.

Also, the Northwest and Northcentral geopolitical zones are equally pressuring the leadership of the APC to zone the position to their regions.
