Boko Haram Launches Fresh Attack, Kills Army General and Soldiers in Borno

‎A fresh attack by Boko Haram insurgents has left several Nigerian soldiers dead, including a senior army officer, after a military base in Borno State came under heavy assault late Wednesday night.

‎The attack was carried out by fighters linked to the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram.

‎Information reaching Politics Nigeria indicates that the incident happened at a Joint Task Force formation in Benesheikh, located in Kaga Local Government Area.

‎The town sits along the busy Damaturu Road, a known route often targeted by insurgents.

‎Sources within the military said the attackers stormed the base with explosives and sustained gunfire. The assault reportedly lasted for hours, creating panic within the camp and surrounding areas.

‎Casualties were said to be high, although the exact number of those killed is yet to be officially confirmed.

‎Among those killed was Brigadier-General O. O. Braimah, who was said to be the commander of the 29 Brigade in the area. His death has dealt a heavy blow to the military formation operating in that axis. Several other officers and soldiers were also feared dead during the attack.

‎“He was killed last night along with the Imam of the Brigade, many officers and soldiers. The attack lasted several hours. The camp is Benishek along Damaturu Road; it’s very unfortunate,” a source told SaharaReporters.

‎Another source confirmed the identity of the senior officer, saying, “This is Brig. Gen. O.O. Braimah, 29 Brig Commander in Benishek, who was killed alongside other senior staff officers yesterday.”

‎In addition to those killed, many soldiers sustained serious injuries. Some personnel are still unaccounted for as search and rescue efforts continue.

‎Military authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

‎The latest attack adds to growing concerns over renewed insurgent activities in the North-East. In recent weeks, Boko Haram and its ISWAP faction have intensified operations, targeting military positions and security formations across Borno State.
