Betta Edu ousted as Tinubu appoints Yilwatda as new minister for humanitarian affairs

President Bola Tinubu has officially appointed Dr Nentawe Yilwatda as the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, signalling the removal of Betta Edu from the portfolio.

Yilwatda was the Plateau governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections.

Edu had been previously suspended following allegations of financial misappropriation, which involved the diversion of N585 million meant for vulnerable groups into a private account.

This suspension came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) launched an investigation into the case.

Yilwatda’s appointment as Edu’s successor marks a new chapter for the Ministry, as he is expected to lead efforts to reform and implement humanitarian initiatives in line with the administration’s objectives of poverty reduction and social welfare improvement.
