Bauchi Govt. to distribute 4.4m mosquito nets to curb malaria

The Bauchi State Government says it will soon commence the distribution of 4.4million Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) to households in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project is handled in collaboration with U.S. Government President Malaria Initiative (PMI-US) and Against Malaria Foundation (AMF).

Dr Sani Dambam, the Chairman of Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDs, Tuberculosis/Leprosy and Malaria (BACATMA), said this at a news briefing on ITNs distribution campaign in Bauchi on Thursday.

Dambam said that the State Government was committed to reducing the burden of malaria in the state.

He said: “The agency, in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), PMI-US and AMF, is currently implementing Net Campaign to distribute 4.4million ITNs to every household in the state.

“Before these nets will be distributed, registration of households will be conducted.

“This is referred to as household mobilisation.”

Dambam said that the registration process would commence from May 27 to June 4, to issue cards to every household for a free net.

“The distribution of the free nets will commence from June 21 to June 27.

“A representative of each household is expected to go to the distribution point written on their cards to collect free nets,” he said.

Dambam educated the public on how the nets could be it to maximum use.

According to him, the net should first be spread for 24 hours in the shade before being used inside

He urged beneficiaries to judiciously use the nets to fight the malaria scourge in the state.

“Let us win the fight against malaria in Bauchi State by sleeping inside the ITN every night,” he further said.
