Bauchi govt confirms outbreak of diphtheria, yellow fever

The Bauchi State government on Wednesday confirmed the outbreak of diphtheria and yellow fever in the state.

Confirming the outbreak, the Executive Secretary, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHCD), Dr Rilwabu Mohammed, said out of the 58 suspected cases, three returned positive, while two have died of the disease.

Diphtheria is an acute contagious bacterial disease causing inflammation of the mucous membrane and formation of false membrane in the throat, hindering breathing and swallowing.
