Bandits attack convoy of Kaduna governor’s aide, injure driver and police officer

Hon. Rachael Averik, the Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the Kaduna State Governor, narrowly survived an ambush by suspected bandits in Southern Kaduna on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

The attack occurred between Tsauni Majidadi and Gani villages in Sanga Local Government Area as Averik was returning to Gwantu.

She had attended a condolence visit and commissioned a hospital built by Alhaji Muhammad Umar Numbu in Arak Chiefdom earlier in the day.

The gunmen opened fire on her convoy, leading to a fierce gun battle between the assailants and her security detail. During the exchange, her driver and a police officer sustained gunshot wounds.

Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government condemned the attack and reiterated its commitment to enhancing security in the region.

Despite the harrowing experience, Averik expressed gratitude for surviving the ambush and extended her sympathies to her injured team members.
