The Atiku Support Organization, ASO, has reacted to the purported crisis in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Report has it that, there has been a face-off between some stakeholders of the party since its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar unveiled the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
Recall that the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom had in an interview, accused Atiku of going against the recommendation of the party on the choice of Atiku’s running mate.
According to Ortom, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who came second in the party’s primary election, was recommended as Atiku’s running mate for the 2023 presidential race.
Party members, who are loyalists of Wike, had also called for the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu over the outcome of the party’s primary and the choice of running mate.
But reacting, the Deputy National Director, Print Media of the Atiku Support Organization, Eric Ekwere, who spoke exclusively with DAILY POST, declared that there is no crisis in the party.
According to him, the crisis only exists on social media, debunking the purported factions in the main opposition party.
He said, “Our party is not in crisis. Wike contested an election, and he lost the primary. And it’s natural that once you lose such an election, you will feel somehow. You will naturally not be happy. It doesn’t mean that the party is in crisis.
“It’s just a little disagreement, and then what we are hearing is just a social media blast. We all know how social media works. You are not there.
“Everybody is working on hearsay. So what we are seeing is social media rumour, nothing more. We are hearing that Wike has a faction different from Atiku’s faction. Who told them that?
“Osun State outing alone is enough to tell Nigerians that PDP is together, and we are confident of winning the 2023 election. This is why I totally disagree with the Obedient team. It’s likely to end like the EndSARS campaign”.
