At last, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan arraigned over alleged defamation of Senator Godswill Akpabio

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has granted bail to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was arraigned on a three-count charge of alleged defamation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The court, presided over by Justice Chizoba Orji, granted bail to the tune of N50 million, with one surety who must be a person of integrity owning a landed property in Abuja.

The Federal Government alleged that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan made false claims about Senate President Akpabio and former Governor Yahaya Bello being behind a plot to assassinate her during a live broadcast on Channels Television’s Politics Today on April 3.

The prosecution claimed that the defendant’s actions constituted an offense under Section 391 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 392 of the same law.

The court adjourned the case to September 23 for trial. Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Governor Yahaya Bello are listed as witnesses in the matter.
