Strong indication emerged Tuesday night that Nigeria may have a female Vice Presidential candidate to run on the same ticket with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The leadership of the party, a source said, may have settled for Senator Binta Masi Garba, a three term House Of Representatives member.
The source further hinted that so many things were put into consideration before the party settled for Senator Binta Garba as the Vice Presidential candidate of the party.
He said the party resolved at a meeting that the Muslim/Muslim ticket may not go down with Nigerians considering the multi-religious background of the country
The source said, “Since Asiwaju Bola Tinubu emerged as the presidential candidate of the party, there have been series of meetings going on to choose his running mate.
“While some are canvassing for a Muslim/Muslim ticket, others see it as a slap on the face of Christians in the country.
”Apart from Senator Binta Garba, other names were mentioned but the name of Senator Garba came out top. Apart from the religious background of Senator Garba, it was also agreed that a woman should be given the chance to lead the country at that level.
About two days ago, Northeast Women for Good Governance, through their Chairperson, Agnes Taru, called on the party to pick Senator Binta Masi Garba, as the Vice President of the party flagbearer Bola Tinubu.
Taru described the Senator, who had represented Adamawa North Senatorial District as outstnding female politician in Nigeria who stood against all odds for the success of the party from inception.
According to her, Senator Garba is someone that respect all irrespective of religious background and have a good leadership skill.
“At the moment she is the best match for Tinubu, looking at how hard she work for the party as the Chairperson in Adamawa State which brought Governor, 3 Senators and 21 Members State House of Assembly. She is a capacitated woman”, she said
Agnes said the selection will be a win-win not only for the party but women and Nigeria entirely. “The combination will make the party have a landslide victory and also make women, most especially those that work hard for the party get involved and have a sense of belonging”.
