APC accuses police of extra-judicial killing in Rivers

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has described as extra-judicial killing the gruesome murder of a 42-year-old man identified as Alafuro Peterside in Port Harcourt by a serving personnel of the Nigeria Police.

The APC in a statement, said the extra-judicial killing of Peterside in Rivers State has become one too many, given the unenviable human rights record set by the Police in Rivers State with the torture and killing of Chima Ikwunado in December of 2019, Lovenda Elekwachi in April 2020 and now, Alafuro Peterside who was murdered in cold blood in the presence of his family.

The Rivers APC in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju called on the Commissioner of Police Nwonyi Polycarp-Emeka to ensure justice is speedily done and forthwith ensure officers under his command undergo psychological and mental evaluation and compulsory civic and human rights education.

The statement urged the CP to ensure that officers who have clean human rights records are recommended for promotion to the Police Service Commission, saying that the APC commiserate with the family of the deceased and demand that adequate compensation be paid by the authorities to cover the welfare of the family of the deceased.
