The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has said an external auditor has been contracted to examine the party’s accounts.
Recall that Oluchi Opara, the national treasurer of the Labour Party, on Monday, accused Julius Abure, national chairman of the party, of misappropriating N3.5 billion.
In response to the allegation during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the party suspended Opara, claiming she was being influenced by “external forces” intent on destroying the LP.
Also, Abure had vowed to institute legal action against Opara for defaming his person.
However, reacting to the development in a press conference on Thursday, Peter Obi said, “we will account for everything
now that we have an independent person who will tell us which way forward.”
Obi, who was accompanied by a member of his 2023 campaign team, Aisha Yesufu, said; “I’m not involved in the party’s management and the campaign accounts.
“The money people gave me during the election was paid into one account or the other which was properly managed because I knew there would be days like this. I assure you, we will account for everything.
“For the Party issue, We now have an independent person who will tell us which way forward, that’s why I’m calling on every member of the public with leads to where these millions and billions were paid to come forward.”
