Al-Qaeda top leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed in a CIA drone strike in Afghanistan, US President Joe Biden said.
In a televised speech on Monday (August 1), Joe Biden confirmed the news of Zawahiri’s death, saying that Zawahiri had committed murder and violence against American citizens. This terrorist leader has died. Through this, justice has been established.
American television channel CBS News reported that three sources confirmed the news of the killing of the al-Qaeda leader. The New York Times, Washington Post and CNN confirmed the identity of the deceased, citing unidentified sources.
Some US officials said the Al Qaeda leader was on the balcony of a house in Kabul at the time of the attack. At this time, two missiles were fired at him from the drone. Zawahiri died in this. Other members of his family were also present in that house. However, they were not harmed in the attack.
Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden was killed in a US raid in Pakistan in 2011. Ayman al-Zawahiri was announced as the new leader of al-Qaeda on 16 June 2011 after the death of Osama bin Laden.
Zawahiri was a close associate of Osama bin Laden. Zawahiri was considered Al-Qaeda’s second in command when Osama bin Laden was alive.
