After Years of Neglect, Niger Moves to Revamp UBEC Smart School

The Niger State Government has commenced efforts to remodel the UBEC Smart School, the only institution of its kind in the state, to restore its facilities and improve technology-driven learning.

The Federal Government-owned school was established to provide modern education through digital learning facilities, including computers, internet access and a 24-hour power supply.

However, the institution reportedly fell into disrepair, with damaged roofs, obsolete computers and non-functional solar power systems undermining its operations.

The state government, under Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, has now stepped in to renovate the school and restore its original purpose of providing a technology-based learning environment.

The intervention forms part of the administration’s broader investment in education, which includes the construction of more than 1,000 classrooms across the state, plans to completely reconstruct 54 schools and the ongoing Bago Mega Schools project.

The initiative is expected to strengthen educational infrastructure and improve access to quality learning facilities across Niger State.
