Adamawa Election Court orders release of PDP members in DSS custody

An Adamawa State High Court has ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, to release three members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in its custody.

The DSS had been holding the trio of Yusuf Mohammed, Zira John and Solomon Abafras since April 16, 2023, after they allegedly rough-handled an operative of the DSS.

The case was subsequently taken to court with prayers for the release of the three.

A State high court, sitting in Yola on Thursday, asked that the detainees be released with immediate effect.

The court, presided over by Justice Christopher Mapeo, ordering the DSS to release the applicants unconditionally, adjourned the matter to next week, May 3, for hearing of the motion on notice.

Earlier reported that the three applicants who are supporters of the PDP candidate in the supplementary governorship election of April 15, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, were seized by the DSS after they allegedly attacked a DSS man on April 16, shortly after the former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Ari, illegally announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen Aishatu Ahmed Binani as winner of the election.
