Adamawa State House of Assembly has suspended the executive chairman of Mubi South Local Government Area, Hon Hamidu Adamu Jingi.
The assembly also suspended the vice chairman and the 10 councillors representing the various wards in the LGA.
The assembly, presided over on Friday sitting by the Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas, directed its ad hoc committee headed by Bauna Myandassa to conclude the investigation on a matter involving the suspended officials and submit its report in one week.
The trouble in the Mubi South Local Government Council, LGC, first became public knowledge on Thursday when the Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria, ALGON, reportedly condemned the purported impeachment of Jingi, the Mubi South Council chairman.
ALGON, while reacting to the development shortly after its emergency meeting in Yola on Thursday, declared the removal of the chairman as a criminal act that could not be allowed to stand.
The state chairman of ALGON, Abdulsalam Gidado, who is also the chairman of Song Local Government Council, told newsmen during the Yola interaction that all ALGON members unanimously condemned the purported impeachment.
Newsmen learnt that in the early hours of Thursday, five of the 10 councillors of the Mubi South Local Government Council declared the chairman sacked over allegations of financial misconduct and incompetence.
The five councillors, in announcing the removal of the chairman, swore in the leader of the Legislative Council, Auwal Haruna, to serve as acting chairman of the LGC.
The Adamawa State House of Assembly, on Friday, however, decided that all parties in the case should step down from their positions in the council while its committee examine the issues and take what may become the final decision.
