Northern Nigeria, with its expansive landscapes, intricate tapestry of cultures, and rich historical heritage, is a cornerstone of Nigeria’s identity. It has always held a unique position as a region of extraordinary promise, rich in human resources, agriculture, and cultural diversity. Yet, it faces challenges that demand visionary leadership to unlock its full potential. Some northern media professionals and technocrats has stepped forward to champion this cause, steering the agenda for a rebranded Arewa with resolute commitment.
These northern eggheads now shoulder the pivotal role of leading media and publicity efforts for the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF). As the socio-cultural umbrella organization for the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, the ACF has long been a bastion for unity and development in the region. The Media and Publicity Committee is charged with amplifying the Forum’s vision and mission, strengthening its public image, and building a cohesive narrative that celebrates and harnesses the north’s vast potential.
Chairing these media juggernauts is Alhaji Nasiru Danu,OFR,Sardauna Dutse and Tafida Babban Daura Under his leadership, the committee aims to deliver robust media engagement, manage crises effectively, monitor public sentiment, and foster positive narratives about the north. This strategy involves a dynamic team of seasoned professionals, including media icons like Abubakar Mohammed Kudu of the NTA, Kadaria Ahmed,Tijjani Ramalan, Mahmud Tunde Hassan, Fatima Zahra Umar, and Ishaq Modibbo Kawu; respected public figures such as Senator Binta Masi Garba and Alhaji Mahmood Halilu Ahmed, mni; and creative minds like Zaaky Azzay, Tuface Idibia, Ali Jita, and Aminu Ala. Together, they represent a rich spectrum of voices united by a shared vision for a brighter Arewa.
Northern Nigeria, often referred to as Arewa, is a region steeped in history and culture. Its rich heritage is evident in its vibrant festivals, ancient traditions, and contributions to Nigeria’s agricultural and economic sectors. The north boasts fertile lands that make it a powerhouse for food production, contributing significantly to the nation’s GDP. Crops like millet, sorghum, rice, and groundnuts thrive in its fields, while livestock farming underscores its potential as a global hub for agro-economy.
Moreover, Arewa’s human capital is equally impressive. The region has produced iconic leaders, scholars, and cultural figures who have left indelible marks on Nigeria and beyond. Yet, for all its assets, the region faces systemic issues, including poverty, insecurity, and divisive narratives that undermine its unity. It is these challenges that Danu and his team are determined to address.
The committee’s approach emphasizes unity, inclusiveness, and stability. They envisions an Arewa where religion, politics, and ethnicity no longer serve as barriers but rather as pillars of mutual respect and collective progress. For them, a stabilized north is the bedrock of a stabilized Nigeria, and the narratives promoted by the Media and Publicity Committee reflect this conviction.
“Our focus,” Danu asserts, “is to ensure that the narratives that promote the stability of northern Nigeria are amplified. Divisive utterances and messages that undermine peace will have no place in the new Arewa. Tolerance, unity, and the celebration of our diversity must guide our words and actions.”
This vision for a new Arewa seeks to transcend historical divides. It is about fostering an environment where every individual is first recognized as a northerner before considerations of religion, tribe, or political affiliation arise. The binding forces, according to Danu, will be love, tolerance, mutual respect, and inclusiveness.
Media plays a pivotal role in shaping perceptions and narratives, and Danu’s team is poised to harness its power. By collaborating with seasoned journalists, digital media strategists, and cultural ambassadors, the committee aims to highlight the richness of northern Nigeria’s contributions to the nation and the world. From its bustling markets and historic cities to its groundbreaking entrepreneurs and vibrant youth population, Arewa’s stories will be told with authenticity and pride.
Moreover, the committee will focus on building strategic partnerships with organizations that align with the ACF’s objectives. These collaborations will help amplify its message, create platforms for dialogue, and foster initiatives that drive tangible progress.
The committee’s vision for Arewa is not just about rebranding; it is about revitalizing the very essence of what it means to belong to the north. It is a call for unity in diversity, for embracing the strengths that come from differences while working collectively toward shared goals. This vision is not only timely but essential, as Nigeria continues to grapple with challenges that demand cohesive regional and national responses.
The new Arewa is a land of opportunity, innovation, and resilience—a region ready to reclaim its place as a leader in Nigeria’s journey toward prosperity. Under Danu’s leadership, the ACF Media and Publicity Committee is laying the foundation for this transformation, one story, one partnership, and one initiative at a time.
As the north steps into this new era, it carries with it the weight of its history and the promise of its future. With leaders of this committee at the helm, the dream of a rebranded Arewa—a region united, prosperous, and dynamic—feels not only possible but inevitable.
