Kanu stated this while briefing reporters on this week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia, the capital.

“Before now, we have focused on the vulnerable ones in the society. At every turn, we try to give the palliatives to those who need them most,” Kanu assured.

He added that civil servants on the Grade Levels 08 – 10 will benefit from the next phase of 36,000 bags when delivered.

“The expected 36,000 bags, when delivered, will be be distributed to civil servants on Grade Levels 08 – 10,” the Commissioner said.

He announced that the state has about 663,000 and 79.9 metric tons of maize and garri respectively which translate to about 13, 260 and 3,196 bags of 25kg each.

Contributing, Special Adviser to the Governor on Policy and Interventions, Rev Father Christian Anokwuru said the state has not received palliatives from the Dangote Foundation as promised.

Anokwuru, however, added that nevertheless, the state was still hopeful of taking delivery of them “as we have received official mails to that effect”.
