Abducted Catholic priest regains freedom in Benue

Rev. Fr. Anthony Adikwu, the Catholic Priest of Otukpo Diocese, who was kidnapped last Thursday by gunmen in the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, has regained his freedom.

The gunmen had, around 7 pm last Thursday, invaded the St. Margaret’s Parish in the Ajegbe Awume community of the local government and abducted the priest to an unknown destination.

Men of the Operation Zenda Unit were able to track down the suspects and successfully rescued Adikwu.

SP Catherine Anene, the state Police Public Relations Officer, while confirming the incident, said that the priest was rescued on Tuesday.

The PPRO further explained, “Our team has been in that place for some time chasing after them. It is the pressure mounted on the kidnappers by our team that made them eventually release him.”
