No fewer than five National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members will repeat service year and three others have their service extended for misconducts in Sokoto state.
The State’s NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Muhammad Nakamba disclosed this during the pass out of 2021 Batch B stream 2 corps members on Thursday in Sokoto.
Nakamba said the affected corps members were sanctioned for various offences ranging from abscondment, absenteeism and others during their service year.
He explained that the scheme have zero tolerance for truancy and will not hesitate to punish any erring corp member .
He noted that a total of 537 corps members passed out and two corps members received the prestigious Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar awards for their outstanding contribution towards uplifting the living standard of their host communities.
The Coordinator thanked Governor. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for his love and unparalleled support to the scheme in the state over the years especially his commitment toward the sustenance of payment of state allowance to corps members.
” I also seized this opportunity to thank his eminence Sultan of Sokoto for his unflinching support to the scheme, and demonstration of love for the youth and NYSC in particular ” Nakamba added.
He maintained that in line with the scheme determination to contribute to the accelerated development of the state in consonance with the policy and programmes of the administration the scheme posted high percentage of the corps medical personnel to the rural areas of the state saying the gesture will go along way in addressing the shortfall in personnel in this sector.
He noted that the corps medical personnel on their various health outreaches have assisted thousands of citizens in the rural communities across the state.
Nakamba also disclosed that in the determination to ensure the educational development of the state, the greater percentage of Corps Members are posted to schools to teach.
He noted during the period Unity Bank have assisted three Corps members that distinguished themselves on skills and enterprinuership development .
He further said that the Bank of Industry and other institutions have also supported corps members who developed business plans but lack funds to finance them .
He urged the outgoing corps members to be a good ambassadors of the scheme and also maximize the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship learnt during the service year.
