4 men arraigned for allegedly stealing amoured cable

Four men were on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing an armoured cable, valued at N632,000.

The defendants, Oluwafemi Osundeko, 28, Happiness Udofia, 45, Samuel Bamitale, 51, and Oladipo Adekunle, 48, all residing at Alagbado, near Ikeja were charged with conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Hakeem Raji, told the court that the offences were committed on June 5 at Sonnex Packaging Nigeria Ltd. at Oregun in Ikeja, where the defendants work.

He said that some security guards in the company saw the 24-metre armoured cable inside the boot of the car of one of the defendants, when he was about to leave the office.

Raji said that all the four defendants confessed that they conspired to steal the cable and hide it in the car.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Aug. 3.
