The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the court ruling against the African Democratic Congress, ADC, alleging that court cases are being used to frustrate opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a post he shared on X on Thursday, Sowore claimed that President Bola Tinubu is deliberately using lawsuits and force to wear down his opponents before the 2027 general election.
He said the string of court battles facing opposition parties, with the ADC as the latest example, is not a coincidence. In his view, it is a calculated plan by Tinubu to scare Nigerians who want to contest against him.
His reaction came after the Federal High Court in Abuja threw out the caretaker leadership of the ADC led by Senator David Mark. The court also voided every action taken by that leadership, including the primary that gave former Vice President Atiku Abubakar the party’s presidential ticket.
The activist and former presidential candidate said Tinubu uses the judiciary to block some rivals, and turns to violence for those he cannot remove through the courts. He fingered the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as the man behind the legal moves.
”The court cases against political parties, at this point, the ADC, are part of Tinubu’s strategic plans to confuse and dissuade Nigerians seeking to run against him. For some, his strategy is to use the courts, where his henchman, Nyesom Wike, pulls the strings,” Sowore wrote.
”Against those he cannot stop in court, he will deploy violence in some cases, using both methods,” Sowore wrote.
Sowore insisted that what happened to the ADC is not a one-off court matter. He described it as part of a wider pattern where the judiciary is being used to weaken opposition parties before Nigerians go to the polls.
