The Okehi Local Government chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), has assured of peaceful campaign and rallies ahead oh the 2023 general elections in the area.
The party was reacting to a statement credited to the Okehi okehi Council Chairman, Salami Omuya Usman, Condemning Opposition PDP’s street Tour, which the chairman alleged was Provocative and Capable Of Causing Chaos And Crisis.
In a statement by Hon. Adinoyi Aroke Okehi LGA PDP Chairman, noted that the said street tour was peaceful and free of rancour, noting that members of other political parties were seen exchanging pleasantries with members of the PDP who were on tour.
The statement “Our attention has been drawn to the various social media write ups and the radio announcement by the Local Chairman of Okehi LGA against the People Democratic Party (PDP) on our recent Walk in Ihima, Okehi LGA . It must be noted that the walk had over twenty thousand party supporters in attendance and other people from every works of life who had confidence in the party and in its move to take over power from the All Progressive Congress (APC) miss-rule in Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
“The said walk which was held on Saturday 8th October, 2022 took place under a very peaceful atmospheric condition devoid of any rancor or chaotic situation as claimed from some quarters, during the walk, members of other political parties in Ihima came out in their numbers to exchange pleasantries with friends on the walk.
“The unfortunate part was the claim that certain song was directed at the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello as mentioned by the Local Government boss in his press release by his media aid, we wish to state un- equivocally that as a responsive political party we cannot encourage such testable act and that no such happened at the walk, the person of His Excellency was neither mentioned or referred to by any word, song or action.
“As a political party who is position to take over come 2023 in Kogi and Nigeria as a whole, the PDP wish to state that we are committed to peaceful campaigns throughout the period allow by law and will do nothing to undermine the process. We call on the Ohi of Ihima that as a traditional ruler, he should play a fatherly role to all irrespective of political parties as his office should not be partisan. We hold the Ohi stool sacred and we will do nothing to let it down but we also wish to admonish the royal father to consult widely before making public statements.
“In conclusion, we admonish all our party members to continue to be law abiding and be peaceful as usual, our commitment to winning the forth coming 2023 elections is undaunted and we will stop at nothing lawful to achieve same, no intimidation or campaign of calumny will deter us.
