2 unemployed men docked for alleged possession of locally-made firearm

Two unemployed men were on Thursday docked in an Upper Area Court, in Karu, Abuja for allegedly being in possession of a locally-fabricated firearm without a licencee.

The police charged Abdullahi Mohammed and Mansur Yinusa with criminal conspiracy and possession of locally-made muzzle loading firearm.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Edwin Ochayi, told the court that the defendants were arrested by a team of policemen on duty led by ASP Stephen Ayodele attached to the Karu Divisional Police station.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 97 (2) of the penal code and 27(1) (ci)of the firearms act.

The Judge, Malam Hassan Mohammed, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Mohammed ordered that the surety must be reside within the jurisdiction of the court and address must be verified by a court officer.

He adjourned the case until Dec. 2 for further hearing.
