Two security guards, Mohammed Kabiru, 38, and Rabiu Danladi, 36, were charged on Tuesday in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates` Court for alleged negligence of duty.
The defendants, both residents of Kawo, Kaduna, were docked on a count charge of negligence.
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the complainant Garba Inusa, of Tanimu Plaza, Kawo, reported the case at the Kawo Police Station, on April 9.
Leo said that due to the negligent conduct of the defendants, who were security guards attached to the above mentioned address.
He stated that while the defendants failed to secure the plaza, thieves broke into the premises and stole 8 bags of rice.
Others are 3 gallons of 25 litres of palm oil and five cartons of noodles all valued N463, 000 from one of the shops.
The prosecutor further said that during police investigation, the defendants could not give reasonable account of themselves nor how the goods were stolen under their watch.
Leo said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 196 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendants denied committing the offence, while the magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each and one surety each in like sum.
Ibrahim ordered that each surety must be gainfully employed and have landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until May 26 for hearing.
