2 nabbed for stealing cables powering Yola water treatment plant

Two young men have been nabbed by the Police for allegedly vandalising a power line and stealing armoured cables supplying electricity to a water treatment plant in the Adamawa State capital, Yola.

Operatives of the Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Police arrested the youths over the theft of the armoured cables connecting the water treatment plant in Boronji, a residential community near the Government House, Yola.

According to a statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the suspects, Yohanna Sulei, 25, and 17-year-old Emmanuel Joseph were arrested by police operatives attached to Dougirei Divisional Police Headquarters, Jimeta.

The two suspects are residents of Boronji.

Nguroje, in the Police statement released Monday afternoon, said the operatives while on a confidence-building building patrol along the Boronji Water Treatment Plant, responded to a distress call from the manager of the plant.

“The suspects conspired and vandalized armoured cables connecting light to the treatment plant, resulting in shutting down of water supply.

“Investigation so far revealed that the suspects are collaborating with some yet-to-be-arrested receivers who benefit even more from the services of the water treatment plant”, Nguroje stated.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, warned those receiving such items to desist, henceforth or prepare for the end result.

He stressed that the receivers of the cables in this particular case would be traced and arrested and be made to face the law.
