10th Assembly: Akpabio fit for Senate President – Mike Uyi

… urges 10th Senate to go for competence in allocating offices

As the race for the top job of the Senate President of the 10th Assembly gathers momentum following the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections, a UK based Organization, Global Peace Movement International has called on the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), other opposition parties to support the aspiration of Senator Godwill Akpabio to become Senate President.

President General of the group, Dr. Mike Uyi made the call in a statement on Monday and made available to journalists, noted that the Senate President position should as a matter of fact be zoned to the South-South.

Mike Uyi who expressed admirations for the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections noted that “an overwhelming majority of Nigerians came out to excises their civic responsibility believes that the incoming National Assembly will work in the interest of Nigerians.

“For any honest observer, as well as any good student of Nigeria’s developmental history, Akpabio’s victory at the polls is well-earned because of his achievements in office, especially in the provision of infrastructure and growth of local productivity which were unprecedented. These achievements are the result of the progressive collaboration and support given the Executive especially during his days as governor, senator and Niger Delta Minister.

“With the 10th Assembly set for another journey of leading the country into another phase of development, and considering also that certain key national leadership offices will be zoned to respective geopolitical zones, it becomes imperative to call on the national leadership of the APC to, as a matter of principle and honour, zone the position of the Office of the Senate president of the 10th Assembly to the South-South geopolitical zone, and if it does that, it should also kindly throw its weight behind Senator Godwill Akpabio.

“Zoning the Office of the Senate President to the South -South region and supporting Senator Godwill Akpabio to occupy the office should be considered an exercise of recognition of selfless sacrifice and love for human capital development which has been Akpabio’s Blue Print in all the various offices he has occupied.

Further more, Uyi said having enjoyed the reward for performance and steadfastness from Nigerians at the polls, the APC should replicate same by going for competence, dedication and legislative dexterity in co-running the affairs of the Senate for the benefits of the party, the Senate and Nigeria as a whole.
