10 killed as Benue gang war escalates

Bandits have attacked Ukoosaa-Atam community of Borikyo Council Ward in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, killing 10 and leaving several others injured.

The village, Ukoosaa-Atam, is located approximately one kilometer from Ayati rural town, where a previous attack had occurred, claiming three lives barely 24 hours earlier.

Recent clashes between rival gangs have led to certain communities in the Ukum Local Government Area becoming deserted, as residents grapple with the violence.

According to reports from the villagers, the bandits arrived on motorcycles and launched an assault on a commercial tricycle (Keke), ruthlessly killing all passengers and the driver.

They targeted another commercial motorcycle carrying passengers, ending their lives as well.

In the aftermath of this horrific incident, the death toll reached 10 innocent individuals, leaving the community in mourning.

Joseph Har, the Benue State Special Adviser on Security & Internal Affairs, confirmed the ongoing clashes between banditry groups in the area.

He assured that Governor Hyacinth Alia is actively working to address the security concerns in the state.
