President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that Nigeria must not toe the path of reliance on foreign donations to tackle its economic hardship.
Tinubu disclosed this on Wednesday at a Joint session with the National Assembly to mark his first anniversary.
He noted that no amount of aid coming from foreign countries can take Nigeria out of the woods.
He urged the lawmakers to join hands with the executive arm of government to make Nigeria better.
“Nobody, no aid, no other institution or personality will help us unless we do it ourselves.
“No number of aid coming from foreign countries or any other nation can do it. They (foreign nations) take care of themselves first. Let us work together to build our nation, not only for us but for generations yet unborn”, he said.
Earlier it was reported that Tinubu hinted at the presentation of a supplementary budget.
This comes as Nigerians continue to groan over economic hardship caused by rising prices of goods and services.
The National Bureau of Statistics in its April report said headline and food inflation increased to a record high of 33.69 per cent and 40.53 per cent.
