Former Premier League referee, Mike Dean has addressed two controversial incidents that happened during Arsenalโs dramatic 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday.
Red Devils boss, Erik ten Hag, has blamed three refereeing decisions for their second defeat of this season.
Two of them were a penalty incident involving new boy, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnachoโs 88th minute goal ruled out for offside.
In reference to the penalty incident, which involved Arsenalโs Gabriel Magalhaes, Dean told Sky Sports: โI donโt think thatโs a pen. I think itโs just good strong defending.
โTheyโre both tussling for it and his [Gabrielโs] arms are there but if you look at another angle, Hojlund has got hold of his left arm so heโs kind of pulling the defender down. Iโd be more than happy with that decision.โ
Garnachoโs strike that was chalked off late in the game, would prove a major turning point.
Casemiroโs threaded ball put Garnacho in to score, but a VAR review deemed he was marginally offside.
Dean added: โHis shoulderโs offside and thatโs what theyโve given.
โI understand where the managerโs coming from because the angle there is not ideal but weโve got the technology in the hub to put the lines in the correct position and it looked offside at normal speed.โ
