Residents of Jos, the Plateau state capital, are complying with the curfew the state government imposed in the area following attacks by gunmen on Anguwan Rukuba community in Jos North local government area.
The state government had declared a 48-hour curfew in Jos North on Sunday, soon after the incident, to prevent the spread of violence.
On Tuesday, our correspondent, who visited some communities within Jos, reports that marketplaces and major roads look deserted.
Ahmadu Bello Way, Murtala Muhammed Way, Bauchi Road, Bauchi Junction, and British American Junction were among the deserted areas.
Security personnel, especially police, soldiers, NSCDC, vigilantes, and others, were seen at checkpoints and patrolling the city in vehicles to ensure compliance.
Vehicles, especially those passing through Jos to other destinations, were being checked by security forces at specific points.
Our correspondent reports that the death toll has risen to 27, while several people are receiving treatment at various hospitals.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent on Sunday that the attackers, who rode motorcycles, invaded the community around 7:30 pm, firing bullets indiscriminately and causing panic among residents while they went about their normal businesses.
