₦5bn Palliative: We may consider, transportation, food items for FCT residents

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike says the FCT administration was still undecided on what to do with the yet-to-be released ₦5 billion palliative.

He said the administration may consider the purchase of vehicles to ease transportation in the territory and provide food items for residents when the fund is released by the federal government.

Wike said his administration has begun efforts to re-introduce urban mass transportation schemes to ameliorate the suffering of the people due to the high cost of transportation.

The Minister spoke late Monday after a closed door meeting with contractors handling numerous projects across the FCT.

He said, “We are yet to decide on what to do with the ₦2 billion palliative.

“We have not chosen any area yet. Are we going to concentrate on food, we are thinking that the issue of transportation is very important, particularly the urban mass transits.

The Minister said he preferred transportation as it would afford people to go to where they want to go in search of work, rather than giving them rice and at the end of the day, they don’t have transportation to move out.

“So, we have not come up with what actually we are going to use the money for, but I believe food support and transportation is very key,” Wike said.
